Kibo Safari Camp

discover Kibo Safari Camp

Kibo safari camp is a luxury tented camp based in Amboseli National Park, set at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa standing at 5896m. Situated 140 kilometers south of Nairobi. Amboseli National Park is the second most popular national park in Kenya.

Kibo Safari Camp is only a 4 hours drive away from Nairobi city and with the newly built tarmac road from Emali to Loitoktok, you are sure to get here comfortably. It is 15km away from the Amboseli airstrip and a five minutes drive from the park gate.

The ideal location of the camp ensures you get breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Kibo safari camp offers complete tranquility and privacy as we have maintained the original nature feel bringing you closer to nature.

In addition to close elephant watching some of the other activities which are possible from Ol Kanjau camp include, day and night game drives through the plains of Amboseli, bush walks, bird watching in the vast wetlands and swamps of Amboseli and the woodlands. The Rainy have a special and unique relationship with the Maasai allowing for visits to neighboring Maasai settlements. For a real thrill guided walks with habituated baboon troops. You'll also get an inside view into the on going conservation ecology studies which help balance the needs of pastoral people and wildlife and ecosystem conservation.

Special Feature: Mike and Judy Rainy, their daughter Jessica and son-in-law Jeff Worden, are conservationists and ecologists who uniquely provide the ideal base in Amboseli from which one may observe and share in the lives of these most magnificent elephants. The Rainys and Wordens combine ecotourism and conservation science in a very special way that helps visitors play a part in securing a long term future for these elephants in Amboseli. Their goal is to help secure an area that can grow with the expanding Amboseli elephant population, and which can also accommodate the needs of the Maasai pastoral people who own the land around Amboseli Park. Ol Kanjau Camp reveals in very special way the ecological, behavioral, and conservation patterns of animal lives to a visitor that can take a few days to appreciate, observe and wonder about the accumulation of natural history information that the Rainys and Wordens and many other have taken decades to build.

The camp consists of 61 spacious self contained tents sheltered by traditional African 'Makuti', thatched roofs.

Room décor: These tents give one luxury combined with comfort in the wild of Africa.
All tents are ensuite with built in showers and toilets. Tents can be customized to sleep singles, doubles, triple or family bed configurations. In addition it has available an open terraced Restaurant and Bar under acacia trees overlooking the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Room amenities: The camp is surrounded by an electric fence to keep the large animals out. Even so they are so close that you can comfortably sit in your porch and watch elephants and other animal strolling and grazing close by. All tents are equipped with a sink (hot and cold running water), shower stall (hot and cold running water) and toilet with flushing water. The water comes from an 85m deep bore hole. It is crystal clear, potable and tastes wonderful.
