The Governors’ Camp Collection comprises of 7 Award Winning luxury safari camps and lodges. We are in the heart of the best wildlife viewing areas of Kenya and Rwanda, set in some of East Africa’s most spectacular scenery. Our clients benefit from the incredible location and style of our properties, our commitment to service excellence, the exceptional training of our guides and the strong bonds we have created with our community neighbors over the 40 years we have been in operation. We also operate two aircraft which we use to fly clients to and between our camps. Relax and enjoy the diversity and beauty of Kenya’s Maasai Mara, Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, Lake Victoria and Rwanda’s Parc National des Volcans secure in the knowledge you are looked after by the best in the business.
For those looking for a wildlife viewing adventure of a different kind we offer Hot Air Balloon Safaris over the Maasai Mara. The adventure begins just before dawn. Departure is from a perfect natural launch site behind Little Governors’ Camp, flames from the hot air balloon burners light the darkness as the crews inflate their craft. The first, pink tongues of sunlight flicker across the skies as the hot air balloon fills, then rises. Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-colored canopy, you’re off for a game-viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective.
There are various activities on offer: game drives in open Landrovers, game walks or balloon flights (optional, with extra cost) over the wide plains of the Maasai Mara.
Day excursions to the Lake Victoria are also on offer. However, we recommend booking this excursion well in advance and combining the Lake Victoria trip with an overnight stay. (Optional, with extra cost)
Each morning a breakfast feast is prepared over blazing coals: mountains of bacon, eggs the way you like them, fresh milk flown-in daily, hot-baked croissants, exotic fruits, and freshly-brewed Kenya coffee.
Lunch, like breakfast is a buffet, this time roast meats hot and cold, fresh salads and delicious desserts. Both meals are served on the shady riverbank with views across the Maras plains.
The dining, an open fire place and the bar tent are at the center of the camp. Next to the reception is a small gallery with local paintings and handcrafts as well as a small souvenir shop. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style in the open. Dinner is served in the dining tent. For dinner there is usually a menu with a choice of main courses. A traditional camp fire is lit at sunset every evening.
Number of Rooms:
38 tents lining the riverbank.
ROOM DCOR: They have uninterrupted views over the Mara River, others have views across the sweeping plains.
ROOM AMENITIES: All guest facilities are under canvas and keep the authentic, traditional safari atmosphere. All guest tents have ensuite bathrooms with shower and basin, running cold and hot water as well as a flush toilet. Gas and paraffin lamps are used for lighting.
