Kilima Camp

discover Kilima Camp

Kilima Camp Maasai Mara is nestled into the hills at the top of the Siria escarpment offering unrivalled aerial views across the Mara, allowing guests to appreciate the enormity of their surroundings. Kilima Camp’s exclusive position provides a natural degree of privacy. Kilima Camp’s enviable location also offers guests the chance to discover local wildlife as well as learning about Maasai customs and traditions on a variety of nature walks originating from the proximity of the camp.

With the entrance to the Mara Game Reserve (Oloololo Gate) and local airstrip just a fifteen minute drive away (Kichwa Tembo), Kilima Camp Maasai Mara is not only easy to reach but also the perfect base from which to explore the plains and its wildlife. Kilima Camp is located in Kenya on the western border of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Kilima Camp Maasai Mara Kilima means “mountain or little hill in Swahili”. Kilima Camp is situated on the edge of the Siria escarpment (also called Oloololo Escarpment) at 1,800 meters above sea level, overlooking the Mara River.

The Mara River and the Maasai Mara plains are at an altitude of 1,500 meters. Mara airstrip Kichwa Tembo is 20 Minutes away from Kilima Camp and the flight from Nairobi takes about 40 Minutes. The Camp is 6 hours away by road from Nairobi.

Game drives are one of the two main activities at Kilima Camp Maasai Mara. On board of one of the specially designed and equipped 4x4 vehicles, you will search for wild animals while exploring the wilderness of the Mara. Kilima Camp Maasai Mara drivers will bring you to different places during every game drive, as to give you a good idea of the different natural habitats: the vast open plains covered with tall red oat grass and scattered acacia trees, the rolling hills covered with short grass and interspersed with rocky inselbergs, the patches of woodland, the extensive marshes and swampy areas, the mighty Mara river with its dense riverine forest.

Their knowledge of the area thanks to their daily presence in the reserve will give you the best chances of observing the 'Big Five' of the African fauna (elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, lion and leopard) as well as the vast array of other gazelles, antelopes and predators, smaller and larger. Birdlife is also prolific, with over 300 species recorded in the Mara. And the crocodiles in the rivers are among the largest in Africa! Game drives are conducted at the most appropriate hours, when animals are most active.

Aperitifs from the bush bar followed by a refined dinner of French-influenced cuisine are served on sundown, before stories and photos of the day's sightings are exchanged over around the campfire.

Sundowner, a true Kenyan tradition, is also arranged in the middle of the bush in our private concession, not far away from Kilima Camp. Kilima Camp Maasai Mara guests enjoy our appetizers and aperitif while watching the sun come down and touch the horizon behind the hills.

Kilima Camp Maasai Mara is about 1800 meters above the sea level, whereas the Maasai Mara is at an altitude of 1500 to 1600 meters above the sea level.

Kilima Camp Maasai Mara consists of twelve stylish and spacious tents complete with their very own verandahs and ensuite bathrooms. Kilima Camp Maasai Mara has a mess tent which is a spacious, central meeting point where guests gather to eat, drink, talk, play games, read, or just enjoy the view.

The intimate size of the camp and the understated elegance and luxury of each tent provides guests with a comfortable and relaxing environment in which to unwind after an adventurous day on safari.

A peaceful moment of relaxation with the superb scenery of the Mara all around. The ideal way for finishing the day after a game drives in the Maasai Mara!
