Kongoni Lodge Naivasha is located in a private park called Kongoni Ranch. The name “Kongoni” comes from a species of antelope present in the area. The ranch is located in the central part of Kenya, some 120 km northwest of Nairobi.
Kongoni Ranch includes about 1000 acres of savannah, a beautiful garden, stables, and a holding, whose focal point is a century old farm, once belonging to Margaret Countess De Périgny and her beloved husband, Roger. Their tombs, made of white stones and placed in the central part of the garden, are today a visible reminder of the former owners.
The farm is situated on a volcanic shelf, elevated high above the Naivasha Lake, which results in its garden being a natural viewing terrace. Its view takes your breath away. A wide belt of African acacia, beyond which gleams the flat surface of the lake, provides the basis for a panorama of extinct volcanic cones.
Kongoni Lodge Naivasha cuisine has developed as a blend of various cultures. The house chef who has learnt, like many of Kenyans best chefs, Mediterranean, European, North African, Indian, Swahili and other cuisine from the multi racial background that is Kenya.
Kongoni Lodge Naivasha aims to cook healthy, locally sourced dishes that everyone can enjoy. The lodge use locally farmed fruit and vegetables. Free range organic eggs, yogurt and fresh cream from the dairy farm down the road. Fresh fish and seafood is bought in from the coast or Lake Victoria.
Kongoni Lodge Naivasha is a private home that offers guests privacy and exclusivity in a traditional colonial style home. The house has five ensuite bedrooms with newly renovated bathrooms.
The bedrooms are off a central courtyard originally designed to accommodate the countess' house guests of which there were many and frequent visitors.
A major feature of Kongoni Lodge Naivasha design is the long veranda that overlooks lawns and gardens with Naivasha acacia trees towards the lake and volcanic peaks that are so much a part of the rift valley landscape. The overall impression is one of privacy, quiet and natures abundance.
The gardens are open to wildlife; one can sit peacefully on the veranda and watch zebra, wart hog and giraffe which are frequent visitors to the gardens. Another attraction is the pool which provides a sense of coolness particularly in the hot and dry season.
