Treetops Hotel is a hotel in Aberdare National Park in Kenya near the township of Nyeri, 1,966 m (6,450 ft) above sea level on the Aberdare Range and in sight of Mount Kenya. First opened in 1932 by Eric Sherbrooke Walker, it was literally built into the tops of the trees of Aberdare National Park as a treehouse, offering the guests a close view of the local wildlife in complete safety. The idea was to provide a machan (hunting platform on a tree during shikar in India) experience in relative safety and comfort. From the original modest two-room tree house, it has grown into 50 rooms. The original structure was burned down by African guerrillas during the 1954 Mau Mau Uprising, but the hotel was rebuilt near the same waterhole and has become fashionable for many of the rich and famous. It includes observation lounges and ground-level photographic hides from which guests can observe the local wildlife which comes to the nearby waterholes.

The hotel is known as the location where Princess Elizabeth acceded to the thrones of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth Realms upon the death of her father George VI while she was staying there in 1952.

Beautiful beach - Lie on the beach, relax, time isnt important in this island. Forget about time while enjoying the warm waters of the Indian Ocean whilst having a cold drink in the drift wood hippy bar, the Robinson Crusoe, on the beach. Swimming pool - The irresistible swimming-pool at which, for the first time in the history of this islet, fresh water is reaching by a pipeline from Zanzibar mainland, is provided with service from the charming Bar (capacity: 35 covers). Boat rides & relaxing, pumping yourself with a massage and a delicious cocktail. Relax; forget about the madness of the day to day life. That is the main activity at Bawe tropical Island.

Dining Room - Dinner is imaginatively served at refractory tables with bench seating tables, which heightens the sense of adventure and stimulates conversation. Main Bar - open from arrival time until after midnight. Malaika bar - on the top deck of the lodge with views of both water holes as well as Mt. Kenya, open from 4.00pm to 7.30pm when dinner is served. Serves afternoon tea. Lounge Area - facing the main waterhole and features picture windows and trees growing through the building. Has an animal count for years since the lodge opened. The bar is open every night till midnight.
